Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) is main tree species in Poland, however relations between
its growth and soil texture are not well recognized. The aim of the paper was to evaluate
the effect of soil texture on Scots pine stand quality class in South West Poland. The studies were undertaken in aspect of silviculture. It was pointed out that Scots pine stand quality class is positive correlated with the fine fraction (Æ < 0.02 mm) content, but only in sandy soils. Due to Scots pine does not utilize the potential trophy of heavy soils the species should not be planted on fresh soils that contain more than 10 15% of the fine fraction ( < 0.02 mm). |
