Emigranci wobec krajowych badań nad romantyzmem (na podstawie wypowiedzi w londyńskich „Wiadomościach” z lat czterdziestych i pięćdziesiątych XX wieku)

Abstract

Celem artykułu jest próba ukazania stosunku autorów tygodnika „Wiadomości” wobec prowadzonych w Polsce lat czterdziestych i pięćdziesiątych XX wieku badań nad romantyzmem (jako epoką historycznoliteracką). Podstawę źródłową niniejszych rozważań stanowią przeglądy prasy, felietony, artykuły, recenzje i listy opublikowane w jednym z najważniejszych emigracyjnych czasopism. Zasadniczo rzecz ujmując, można stwierdzić, że przebywający na obczyźnie badacze i publicyści demaskowali obecność cenzury w krajowych publikacjach, protestowali przeciwko fałszowaniu historii, a także walczyli z różnymi formami propagandy „władzy ludowej” w badaniach naukowych.

The main aim of the article is to try and present the attitude of the authors of “Wiadomości”, a Polish publication based in London and published between 1946 and 1981, towards the research that was carried out in Poland in the 1940s and 1950s about Romanticism. The research is based on press reviews, columns, articles, reviews and letters published in “Wiadomości”, which was one of the most important emigrant publications. Generally speaking, it can be said that the researchers and publicists who lived abroad exposed the presence of censorship in domestic publications, protested against distortion of history and fought against various forms of propaganda used by the “people’s government” in research. Moreover, these publications of domestic academics that omitted relevant, according to the emigrants, facts were pointed out on the pages of “Wiadomości”. Sometimes, however, the authors of the publication praised the research undertaken in Poland and the source materials published there.
