This presentation accompanied a paper delivered by Dr Magdalena Wiśniewska-Drewniak at the ICARUS Convention #36 “Highlighting Heritage, Empowering Knowledge – From Archivists to Everyone”, held in Tallinn, Estonia, on 27–28 May 2026. The paper presented interim findings from the research project “The Impact of Independent Community Archives”, focusing in particular on the Dogs Community Archive, a grassroots documentation initiative dedicated to archival work and activism concerning the history of dogs in Poland. The paper explored motivations for establishing a community archive, a sense of responsibility for the archive, social justice activism relating to animal welfare, and the role of archival description in activist work. The presentation also includes numerous quotations from interviews with the archive’s founder.
