The paper concerns Yamada Kakashi’s one-act play, translated by Henryk Fogl and published in Poland in 1905. The play refers to another work, written for the puppet theatre, Asagao. Noteworthy is not only the reception of Japanese plays presented by Japanese troupes travelling throughout Europe at the turn of nineteenth century, but also Japanese aesthetics and the motif of morning glory, recurring in Japanese literature and art.en
