Problems of preservation of historical heritage objects, recovered from western bridge underwater layers
Preservation of archaeological cultural heritage objects has more, than a hundred years’ history. However, we still do not comprehend defi nitively all the processes occurring in various environments. Historical objects found in fresh water react
a little differently, than those found in sea water. This refers to both – the objects made of organic raw material and these ones made of metal. Information contained in this article brings closer understanding of the issues connected with changes taking place in particular objects’ (leather, wood, antlers, iron, bronze) structures. Problems related to conservation techniques are also discussed. Financed by the Foundation for Polish Science, the Project Aracheo II initiated conducting scientific research upon historical objects’ categories mentioned above. Introduction of new technologies to conservation process of archaeological historical treasures in Poland and broad research grounds with participation of various disciplines representatives – biology, physics or chemistry, is among the others, the result of these researches. Their brief characteristic and possibilities of their application in direct conservator’s work is presented in hereby article. Historical heritage objects recovered from ‘western bridge’ relics, accessible to the public in exhibitions in Lednickie Museum, are the evidence of many years’ conservation activities. |
