Pomiędzy Paryżem a Moskwą – opinie księcia Adama Jerzego Czartoryskiego o Napoleonie i Księstwie Warszawskim

Abstract

The article is to present the opinion of Adam Jerzy Czartoryski about Napoleon and the Duchy of Warsaw. Timeframe of the article is limited by the years of the formation of the Duchy of Warsaw and beginning of the war in 1812. The article’s attention is focused on the editing of the Prince Adam’s source diaries prepared by Jerzy Skowronek and memorial „Organisation du Duché de Warsovie”. Czartoryski in the era of the Duchy of Warsaw was on the political sidelines. At that time, however, he watched how the small country of great hope was functioning. He analyzed the selection of persons entrusted with important positions. He appreciated the constitution and civil law introduced with it. Czartoryski attempted to assess the Emperor of the French as well. Opinions from the period in question were not burdened with the requirements of the anti-Napoleon propaganda. As a result, evaluation of the Emperor of the French was filled with a lot of positives.

Artykuł ma na celu ukazanie opinii Adama Jerzego Czartoryskiego o Napoleonie i Księstwie Warszawskim. Ramy czasowe artykułu wyznaczają lata formowania się Księstwa Warszawskiego i początek wojny w 1812 roku. W artykule uwaga została skupiona na edycji źródłowej pamiętników księcia Adama przygotowanej przez Jerzego Skowronka oraz na memoriale „Organisation du Duché de Warsovie”. Czartoryski w dobie księstwa Warszawskiego był na politycznym uboczu. W tym czasie przyglądał się jednak jak funkcjonuje „małe państwo wielkich nadziei”. Analizował dobór osób, którym powierzono ważne stanowiska: od króla, przez Radę Stanu do ministrów. Doceniał konstytucję księstwa i wprowadzone w nim prawo cywilne. Czartoryski pokusił się także o ocenę Cesarza Francuzów. Opinie z omawianego okresu nie były obciążone wymogami propagandy antynapoleońskiej. Pojawiło się zatem w ocenie Cesarza Francuzów sporo pozytywów.
