Abstract:
Extreme thermal and precipitation conditions in the period of instrumental observations in Torun have been determined based on a homogenized measurement series, from the years 1871-2010. For the values of the averages, maximum and minimum averages, and monthly, seasonal and annual sums of the air temperature and precipitation, percentile threshold values have been assigned: 1, 5, 95, and 99%. It has enabled the indication of the extremely cold and the extremely hot months, seasons, and years.
The extremely hot years had been the most frequent at the turn of the 20th and 21st century. A higher frequency of the extremely cold years had been observed in the beginning of said period and in the 1940’s. The extremely hot and dry years had the highest rate in the years 1871-1910. The extremely humid ones had occurred in the last decade of the analyzed period (2001-2010).
