Abstract

The Old Believers who came to the territory of the Commonwealth of Poland and Lithuania in the 2nd half of the 17th century constitute nowadays a religious, language and cultural minority. However, their socio-cultural situation is continuously changing and they tend to assimilate to their surroundings. The main elements of their cultural identity, i.e. religion, tradition, language, feeling of group integrity and distinctiveness from the others play also important role in their system of values. On the basis of chosen statements of the Old Believers from Suwałki-Augustów region the author makes an attempt to characterize the most important elements of the value system of the given group
