Abstract

A museum facility or museum exhibit is always an area of myth creation, identity determination, and this is generally a political undertaking. Politics and power almost always have their share in the creation of museum centers and facilities. The Warsaw Rising Museum, discussed in the article, is a museum in Poland which in many respects is a unique and innovative solution on many levels. The building, the nature of the exhibition, the manner of its presentation, etc. are inspiring in terms of museums, exhibitions, formal as well as in terms of new ideas and content. The establishment and functioning of the museum sparked a debate in Poland about the so-called historical policy, which the museum itself was partly an effect of. The discussion cited in the article took the form of a political dispute, at the center of which was history and memory. Historical policy has taken the form of historical revindication in the romantic key, which is a response to a critical story, focusing on searching for white spots and demythologizing Polish history. Historical policy has become an intellectual interpretation of the need for memory, the Warsaw Rising Museum is one of the institutional facilities serving such memory. The accounts of intellectuals, historians, and politicians are present and legible in this matter.

Placówka muzealna, eksponat muzealny jest każdorazowo obszarem tworzenia mitu, określania tożsamości, a to jest na ogół politycznym przedsięwzięciem. Polityka i władza niemal zawsze mają swój udział w powstawaniu i kreowaniu muzealnych ośrodków i obiektów. Polityka historyczna stała się intelektualną wykładnią potrzeby pamięci, Muzeum Powstania Warszawskiego jest jedną z instytucjonalnych placówek takiej pamięci służącej. Relacje intelektualistów, historyków i polityków są w tej materii obecne i czytelne.
