Abstrakt:
The system of Brazilian Mata Atlântica (Atlantic
Forest) was one of the richest and most diverse macro-ecosystems in the
World. With the European colonization in Brazil, started in the year 1500,
most of the original forest has been fragmented and presently preserved remnants
are mostly found in the coastal mountain ranges. This paper aims at
analyzing the social perception of deforestation in Brazil, with particular attention
paid to the biome of the Mata Atlântica. It has been shown that the
social perception of deforestation has changed for better in the recent years.
Brazilians are aware of the significance of natural environment and biodiversity
and really wish to participate in the actions counteracting undesired
phenomena observed in nature, including the process of deforestation. Such
positive attitudes are largely noted due to the success of implementation of
programs promoting the protection of natural environment. It is especially
important considering fact that the majority of population in Brazil resides in
the biome of the Mata Atlântica.
