In the United States legal system there is no such thing as a notary within the meaning accepted in the civil law culture. Nevertheless, taking account of the U.S. experience in research upon Latin notary is not pointless. The legal system abhors a vacuum and refraining by public authorities from undertaking activity on a particular area creates some room for substitute private action. It is worth examining if the private law institutions developed in the U.S. which fulfill the functions
