Abstrakt:
The article presents the issues of economic growth of countries on the background of sustainable development concept. This paper discusses, among others, the following questions: whether sustainable development does not contribute to the country’s economic growth, or perhaps economic growth is essential for the effective implementation of sustainable development?
Authors analyze collected materials related to this topic. The articles includes part, in which are discussed the issues explaining mechanism and source of economic growth, origin and evolution of sustainable development, as well as the empirical part, which presents the analysis of some indicators of sustainable development, with particular emphasis on economic factors.
Analyzed literature shows that countries characterized by high economic growth in recent years do not have high value of the index of environmental sustainability index, and they put greater emphasis on economic development at the expense of the natural environment. This situation also occurs in developing countries, while in developed countries, where ecological awareness is at a higher level, we can see the coexistence of economic growth, together with the implementation of sustainable development.
