Title: Excess work incapacity during and after the COVID-19 pandemic in Poland: dataset and codebook Version: 1.0 1. Description This repository contains the anonymised dataset and accompanying codebook used in the analysis of quarterly work incapacity in Poland during 2015–2024. The dataset includes counts and rates of: - rehabilitation benefits (RBs), and - disability pensions (DPs), disaggregated by sex and ICD-10 diagnostic chapter, with population denominators based on the number of insured persons. All data are aggregated, anonymised, and derived from data of the Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS), obtained on request by authors. --- 2. Included files 2.1 Data file: dataset.xlsx Dataset of sex- and ICD-10-chapter-specific quarterly data on RB and DP counts, insured population counts, and rates (per 100,000 insured persons) for 2015–2024. 2.2 Codebook: codebook.xlsx Codebook provides: - definitions of all variables, - units and formats, - rate formulae, - ICD-10 diagnostic chapter grouping, - data source information. This file ensures full interpretability and transparency of the dataset. --- 3. Variables (summary) A complete description is available in the Codebook, but the variables include: - year – calendar year - quarter – quarter of observation (1–4) - sex – M = male, F = female - icd10 – ICD-10 diagnostic category - rb_count – number of rehabilitation benefits granted - dp_count – number of disability pensions granted - insured_count – number of insured persons - rb_rate – RBs per 100,000 insured persons - dp_rate – DPs per 100,000 insured persons --- 4. Notes All data are aggregated, fully anonymised, and contain no personal information. This version has been prepared for double-blind peer review; identifiers will be added after acceptance. The dataset will be published in a repository after acceptance. Rates follow the standard formula: - rb_rate = (rb_count / insured_count) * 100000 - dp_rate = (dp_count / insured_count) * 100000 ICD-10 diagnostic chapters follow the grouping specified in the Codebook. --- 5. Data provenance Raw counts and denominators originate from aggregated tables of the Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) as explained in the Codebook. All transformations (rate calculations, formatting, ICD-10 grouping) were performed by the authors. Received from ZUS: March 2025. For reproducibility purposes, all transformation steps are described in the codebook. --- 6.
